The Ultimate Social Media Strategy for Creators

Social media can feel like a full-time job on top of your actual work. Here's how to build a sustainable strategy that grows your audience without consuming your life.

Social media strategy

The Platform Selection Problem

You don't need to be everywhere. In fact, being everywhere usually means being mediocre everywhere. Instead:

  1. Pick your primary - One platform where you go deep
  2. Choose a secondary - One platform to repurpose content
  3. Ignore the rest - Seriously, it's okay

Content Pillars: Your Strategic Foundation

Define 3-5 content pillars—themes you'll consistently create around:

  • Pillar 1: Your core expertise
  • Pillar 2: Behind-the-scenes / process
  • Pillar 3: Industry commentary / opinions
  • Pillar 4: Personal stories that relate to your work
  • Pillar 5: Curated resources / recommendations

The Sustainable Posting Schedule

Forget posting 5x daily. Here's what actually works:

For LinkedIn/Twitter

  • 3-5 posts per week
  • Engage for 15-30 minutes daily
  • Batch create on one day

For Instagram

  • 3-4 posts per week
  • Stories daily (if you have the capacity)
  • Reels 1-2x per week

For YouTube/Podcast

  • Weekly or bi-weekly episodes
  • Shorts/clips for additional reach

The Repurposing Workflow

Create once, distribute many:

  1. Write a long-form blog post
  2. Extract key points for Twitter/LinkedIn
  3. Create an infographic for Instagram
  4. Record yourself talking through it for TikTok/Reels
  5. Expand into a podcast episode if relevant

Engagement That Matters

Stop chasing vanity metrics. Focus on:

  • Comments over likes
  • Saves over shares
  • DMs over follower count
  • Quality replies over mass engagement

Social media is a marathon, not a sprint. Build systems that you can maintain for years, and the compound growth will take care of itself.
